About Us

Our History

Juneteenth in the WB is a community-wide volunteer effort started in 2021 by the West Bloomfield Social Justice Committee. Our goal was to come together from all corners of our Township and honor our full American experience, and the richness of diversity in our community.

Juneteenth in the WB was our first and biggest effort, and now in its third year. We have also held listening sessions, talk backs about race, worked with Braver Angels, Safe and Just Michigan Expungement Fairs, and educated ourselves about US history. Most of all we shared our dreams, built friendship and worked  together for a better tomorrow.

Our partners include the WB Library, Parks, Township, Police and WB Schools.

In 2024, the event was taken on by the West Bloomfield Parks' Diversity Task Force. Parks hosted the event for two  years.

In 2026, under Chair Dr. Kimberly Matthews, the event will be hosted at the Covenant Baptist Church in West Bloomfield.

We are so excited to support this special community event as it continues to grow!

Our Mission

Promote diversity, equity and inclusion in our wonderful Township. We wanted a fun event that would help us build bridges to one another, and teach us about one another, and meet and celebrate our neighbors.
